Hi friends, it’s Samantha! The current challenge is all about those sweet, cute and happy holiday critters, so this time, I decided to make a card with the adorable penguins!

I stamped and colored the images from Penguin Party and Toboggan Together and then colored them in with Zig Clean Color Real Brush Markers. I thought it would be so fun to try something different and make the penguins bright and happy in yellow! So fun! I added some details with a white gel pen to finish them off!

I die cut out the frame from Peekaboo Backdrop in white and then popped it up with foam tape. I used Distress Oxide Inks in Pine Needles, Peacock Feathers and Salvaged Patina to add color to the square and rectangle windows for the winter sky. Then I splattered some white acrylic in on top to mimic snow!

I also used the Stitched Hillside Borders to die cut out some hills of snow for behind the frame. I added a very light blending of Tumbled Glass Distress Oxide Ink to the tops so the hills would match the blue tint of the snowballs and snow cones.

I finished the card off by popping up some of the penguins and then sprinkling some silver sequins around the adorable winter scene!

Thank you, Samantha for putting the spotlight on these adorable penguins for the Holiday Critters challenge!

Samantha was inspired by the children’s book series by Mo Willems: Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus and The Duckling Gets a Cookie?! She says, “both of these books are near and dear to my heart since when my little Menn were actually little (ha!). They LOOOOVED these books and always made us ALL crack up!”

She started by stamping the images from the Rub-a-Dub-Dub, Car Critters, All the Speech Bubbles and Milk and Cookies with Zig Clean Color Real Brush Markers and then die cut them out. Then she transformed the larger duck image into the Pigeon.

Samantha used the Peekaboo Backdrop dies to create the sort of book/comic book grid that is used in the book. She used Distress Oxide Inks in Abandoned Coral, Picked Raspberry, Dried Marigold and Tattered Rose to add ink blending all around.

The sentiments were stamped from All the Speech Bubbles in all of the tiny speech bubbles!

This is so sweet, Samantha! Thank you for sharing this inspired card!

Design Team Inspiration

Joyce used our Peekaboo Backdrop to create cute scenes with our Porcu-pine for You and Porcu-pine for You Add-On sets. She even hid a sweet little porcupine behind the window flap! And of course, there’s hearts too! She stenciled the background with Falling Hearts Stencils!

Christy‘s card soars with lots of heart and a cute mouse! She used All My Heart for the mouse and heart balloon. There’s an additional heart balloon from Scent with Love Add-On. Then she added a custom element to the All My Heart sentiment with Finley’s ABCs! And how cool are the pink and red colors for the Stitched Scalloped Rectangle and Quilted Heart Backdrop: Portrait! So beautiful!

The porcupines are back in a beautiful design by Franci! She created a heart window with Outside In Stitched Heart Stackables, layering it over a Scalloped Rectangle panel in Stripes ‘n Sprinkles. Then she arranged the sweet critters with an envelope from Love Letters. The pretty sentiment is also from Love Letters.

Karin‘s clean and simple card is so beautiful! She created pretty white cardstock layers with a Fancy Scalloped Rectangle and a Stitched Rectangle Frame. Then she used Heart Garland Backdrop: Portrait to add a colorful garland of hearts. The sentiment is from Berry Special, stamped on the stitched banner also found in the Heart Garland Backdrop: Portrait set.

“I chews you” is the perfect punny greeting for Samantha‘s sweet Wood You Be Mine? beavers! She inked the background before adding texture with Woodgrain Backdrop. Then the cute beavers take center stage beneath the sentiment that is embossed on a vellum Fancy Wavy Banner.

Mimi found a super fun and clever way to use the pretty gold foiled envelopes in the Happy Mail washi tape! She backed them with white cardstock before cutting the individual “love letters”! They fill the Eggstra Amazing Easter bunny’s wagon and the mailbox. Mimi’s clever mailbox combines masked parts of the All-Star basketball hoop, Yappy Birthday doghouse and You’re Just My Type desk. In the background she used the negative space from the new Stitched Happy Heart as a window to stencil a brick heart! Then she added more hearts with Lots of Hearts Background Stencils.

Make someone special feel like the queen bee for Valentine’s Day with Samantha‘s beautiful Hive Five card! For the background she used the Honeycomb Backdrop with the Heart Garland Backdrop: Portrait layered over the top. I love her pretty pink monochromatic colors!

Catherine‘s Ta-Da! Diorama! has a fun 50s vibe with those clever records! She stenciled the brick pattern on the Ta-Da! Diorama! Heart Window Add-On and the moving “doors”. Then she stamped cute Valentine sayings from How You Bean? Conversation Heart Add-On.

When you pull open the doors, Ta-Da! it’s a cute diner scene complete with jukebox and poodle skirt! Be sure to check out Catherine’s blog for all the sets she used to create her brilliant little scene!

We will have more Design Team inspiration right here over the next 3 weeks and be sure to come back tomorrow when we’ll announce our Featured Fawnatics and random winner for Challenge 164 – Let’s Celebrate!
