Mimi’s Spinning Platform Pop-Up Carousel

You are invited to share your creativity by linking up your crafty projects at the end of this post! Your project should feature Lawn Fawn stamps, dies, stencils and papers. This challenge will run for 2 weeks and be open until Sunday, February 18th at 11:59PM ET.

For each challenge, we will randomly select an entry to receive a $50.00 gift certificate to the Lawn Fawn shop! Everyone who enters a challenge has a chance to be the random drawing winner! Woohoo!

We will also be highlighting a few of your fabulous projects at the close of each challenge! By linking your projects to our challenges, you will give permission for us to post your work to this blog and our social media sites. Check out the How to Play page for a few guidelines to play along. We want this to be FUN, so we’ll keep the rules to just a few!

It’s the last weekend for the Interactive Challenge and we have some amazing inspiration for you! Mimi created a cool spinning carousel using Platform Pop-Up and filled it with cute unicorns! So much fun!

Mimi’s Tutorial for the carousel

To create the base of the carousel (see A & B):

Die cut 2 pieces of the platform pop-up. I placed the Slide on Over die to cut a middle slit on each piece. Assemble the platform pop-up. There will be a circle opening in the middle made from the slide on over die. This is where I will put the paper straw to create the center pole.
Die cut one 2” circle from Circle Stackable. Use the small circle die from Bubbles of Joy Lawn Cuts set to die cut a smaller circle in the middle of the 2” circle.

1/8” iCraft foam strips cut into squares.
1- 1/4” foam square (I doubled the 1/8”)
1- 1/8” foam square

Using the same small circle die from Bubbles of Joy, I die cut the circle onto the foam squares. Adhere the 1/4” foam square onto the platform, then the 2” circle piece and then the 1/8” foam square on top. Insert a paper straw. Set aside.

To create the middle spinning part of the carousel (See C & D):

Die cut 2 Reveal wheels. On each wheel, you’ll notice some non-creased mark along the inner circle. I made a slit, about 1/4”, at every other non-creased mark (marked in white). I put the two wheels together and made the slits at the same time so the slits match.

Cut eight 1/8” strips, 4 1/4” long. Place a 3 3/4” strip of double-sided tape (middle of the strip) on 4 of the strips, leaving 1/4” on each end. The ends will NOT have adhesive.
Adhere each strip to the remaining 4 strips and bend each end outward. This will create the poles for the carousel. Insert each strip ends through the 2 reveal Wheels. Glue down the ends to the reveal wheel.

To create the tent top of carousel (see E & F):

Die cut two 1/3 part of the platform pop-up Die cut 2 pieces of the platform pop-up cloud wrap around trimming off about 1/4” from the bottom. Cut two 1/8” strips. Die cut 6 triangle pieces from On the Road. Die cut the stitched flower from Stitched Teapot.
Assemble the partial platform pieces. Use the small circle die (same from Bubbles For You) to die cut circle in the middle. Adhere 1/8” foam square with the circle die cut out. Adhere the platform pop-up cloud wrap around to the partial platform piece.

For the tent part, glue the top of each triangle piece to a flower petal. I flipped it around and placed 1/8” double sided tape to each bottom of the triangles. Carefully adhere the ends to the assembled platform pop-up.

Assemble base, middle and top (see G & H):

Insert the straw though all the circle openings. I added the unicorns (both front and back images) to each pole. You can add any animals you like. Elephants would be good for a baby shower carousel.

Spin the reveal wheel to make the carousel go around.

Wow! This is so creative and so amazing, Mimi! Thank you for this brilliant interactive inspiration!
