Hey friends, it’s Christy here with another card for our Show Us Where You Live Challenge! Since I already did a card inspired by Presque Isle State Park, this time I decided to do more subtle nods to my home state of Pennsylvania. Our most famous animal is Punxsutawney Phil, the groundhog who comes out of his burrow every February 2nd and determines whether or not we will have six more weeks of winter based on if he sees his shadow. Groundhog’s Day has passed but we still have plenty of these critters here so I thought it might be fun to try to recreate one by transforming one of the beavers from Wood You Be Mine?

To turn this into a birthday card, I added in images from A Bug Deal, and Really High Five, stamped them in Jet Black ink, colored them with Copic markers, and trimmed them out with the matching dies. I colored all the little party accessories in blue and gold, our state colors.

Pennsylvania was founded by William Penn, and the name means Penn’s Woods. We do have lots of forests here, so I thought the Forest Backdrop would be the perfect frame for my scene. I die cut it from Dark Brown Woodgrain Cardstock, and cut the trees from Cilantro and Noble Fir. I also die cut the grass portion of Mushroom Border from Noble Fir.

Then I created a background by blending Broken China Distress Oxide Inks onto Bristol Smooth Surface Cardstock using the Cloudy Stencil. I also darkened up the edges of the grass and trees by using Mowed Lawn on the Cilantro Cardstock and Pine Needles on the Noble Fir Cardstock.

I popped the frame over the background using Scotch 3M Foam Tape, added my images with liquid glue, and finished with a custom sentiment combining phrases from Let’s Toast and Really High Five. I also finished off the inside of the card using Noble Fir Ink.

You still have time to play along with our challenge! We can’t wait to see how you interpret this one!

Thank so much for this creative inspiration, Christy!

Catherine’s Clever Mountain Platform Pop-Up

We hope you enjoy today’s inspiration! We can’t wait to see your beach or mountain creativity! The Challenge 126 – Beach vs Mountain is a 2-week challenge and will be open until Sunday, June 19 at 11:59PM ET.

Catherine is back with another cute and clever design to inspire you!

Catherine’s brilliant camping and zip-lining scene is so much fun! And adding it to a Platform Pop-Up makes it even more fun! She used Stitched Mountain Borders to create the 3D scenery along with Forest Border. She decorated the base of the Platform Pop-Up using Build-A-Campsite and a Butterfly Kisses bunny.

The Really High Five critters are zipping over the mountains with the help of acetate strips to suspend them. Catherine fashioned the zip-line using the triangle from Critter Concert. She used a line from a limited edition set but you could substitute with the clothesline from Little Bundle. And because “safety first” these wise critters borrowed helmets from Scootin’ By.

Catherine used the tree die from Build-A-Campsite to make a stencil to create scenery on the platform base.

Thanks so much for this totally adorable inspiration, Catherine!
