Catherine was inspired by a Christmas card that Marine created for the introduction to Ugly and Bright! She put her own spin on the original by changing the season, creating an amazing beachy, summer design!

In addition to the Ugly and Bright bear, Catherine featured bears from Snow Much Fun and Den Sweet Den! I love the little sleeping bear getting some sun on the sandy beach! She created the beach scene with Stitched Wave Borders, Hammock and Trees and Stitched Hillside Borders. Then she added Sandy Beach Accents and more beachy cuteness with On the Beach and Beachy Christmas. The bear is wearing a bucket hat from Dad + Me and the luggage is found in Car Critters Road Trip Add-On!

She used Reveal Wheel and clear acetate to make the spinning wheel of summer t-shirts! As the wheel turns the bear changes his outfit! So clever!

Catherine used the plain sweater from Ugly and Bright for the summer t-shirts. She stamped a hibiscus from Toucan Do It on one and the island from Plan on It on another one. The third t-shirt is paper-pieced using Gummy Bears paper.

And here is Marine’s brilliant Christmas card that inspired Catherine’s amazing summer-themed interactive card!

I love your amazing card, Catherine! Thanks so much for the inspiration!

White Water Rafting with Mimi

It’s the last weekend for the Into the Woods challenge and Mimi has a super fun idea to inspire you! Her interactive whitewater rafting scene is filled with fun and adventure!

Mimi used the Reveal Wheel to add the fun interactive element to her card! She built her scene with stenciled clouds, Stitched Mountain Borders, Forest Border and Stitched Wave Borders. She used animals from Scootin’ By and You Autumn Know. The helmets are from Scootin’ By, the “paddles” are spoons from Baked with Love and the rocks in the river are from Mermaid for You, Ocean Shell-fie and Christmas Fishes. The raft is made using an altered Flamingo Floatie.

Here are Mimi’s step by step instructions:

I die cut 2 large stitched rectangle panels (top/bottom) and die cut a notch on top of each for the reveal wheel.

I masked all the edges of my top panel. I ink blended with distress oxide inks. The clouds were blended with Wild Honey at the top 1/3 of the panel. The rest, I ink blended with Salty Ocean.

I die cut the stitched mountain border, ink blended with Hickory Smoke and the forest border with Mowed Lawn and Rustic Wilderness.

Using a 5 3/8” x 3” piece of vellum, I die cut 4 stitched wave borders, carefully not cutting pass the ends, leaving about 1/4” in tact. I used white paint and brushed streaks to create water waves.

I stamped, colored and die cut all my images. The raft was made from the Flamingo Floatie, trimming off the head/neck and tail.

I placed the vellum on top of my top panel and die cut the arc-shape window (from the Reveal Wheel die set). I put the vellum piece aside and assembled the the reveal wheel mechanism along with the bottom panel. I also die cut 3 circles from the Flamingo Floatie die, glued them together and placed it on my wheel through the exposed arc-window.

I assembled the card by adhering the vellum piece first, then the mountains and the forest border. I glued the critters in the raft and attached it to the circle die on the reveal wheel. I then glued the paddles and the water drops/splatters to the raft. I randomly placed the rocks in between the wave borders. I used a few foam squares to ‘lift’ the bottom wave border up so the raft can move back and forth smoothly. Lastly, I also added some final touches of water waves on the rock with the white paint.

I stamped the ‘turn’ and the sentiment in Jet Black ink to finish the card, adding some sparkle glaze to the water drops/splatter for some interest.

Turn the wheel and watch the critters raft through some whitewater rapids on the river!

Thank you so much for this amazing inspiration, Mimi! Such a great way to close out the Into the Woods samples!

Christy’s Cool Birthday at the Beach!

We hope you enjoy today’s inspiration! We are looking forward to seeing your Summertime Fun creativity! The Challenge 127 – Summertime Fun is a 2-week challenge and will be open until Sunday, July 3 at 11:59PM ET.

Hey friends, it’s Christy with another card for our Summertime Fun Challenge! I started this one by stamping out the images from Pool Party and On the Beach in Jet Black Ink. I colored them with Copic markers and trimmed them out with the matching dies.

For the background, I used three panels of Bristol Smooth Surface Cardstock blended with Distress Oxide Ink. For the sky, I blended some Salvaged Patina and Peacock Feathers. For the water, I trimmed off the top with the Stitched Wave Borders and used the same two shades, plus some Mermaid Lagoon, then used the Stitched Ripple Backdrop to give it some texture. For the sand, I trimmed off the top with the Stitched Simple Wavy Borders and blended on Antique Linen and Gathered Twigs. Then I splattered both the sand and see with Liquid Stardust.

For my sentiment, I colored some white cardstock with Copics in shades of orange and die cut the C and L using Finley’s ABCs. I added the pool floaties for the Os to spell out the word COOL. The rest of the sentiment I white heat embossed onto Black Licorice Cardstock and cut down into strips. I glued everything down with liquid glue and finished with a bit of Stardust Stickles.

If you’d like to see how this card came together, you can check out the video tutorial on my YouTube Channel, Christy Gets Crafty. If you haven’t yet entered our Summertime Fun Challenge, there is still another week to play! We can’t wait to see what projects you’ll come up with!
